Sydney Craft Beer Weeks Guide to Craft Beer In Sydney
Where to start? There are a lot this year, double the number of venues we had in 2012 so let’s start with some of the new ones
Flat Rock Brew Cafe
290 Willoughby Road, Crows Nest – https://www.facebook.com/FlatRockBrewCafe
This is a sweet little cafe in Willoughby Road in Naremburn (Crows Nest). A great small bar with a swish selection of food, rotating taps, a hand pump – they even brew their own beers! Compared to, say, the Inner West, the northern Sydney has been slow to jump on the craft wagon so Flat Rock is surely a welcome reprieve for northsiders.
Events: Cask Conditioned Ales, Women Of Beer
The Welcome Hotel
91 Evans St Rozelle – http://thewelcomehotel.com/
Formerly a quaint Irish pub, The Welcome has transformed itself into a craft beer lovers’ paradise in a very short time. There’s nearly 20 taps of craft, a bottle list that will send you spinning and a revamped menu that will satisfy the foodies among you. Thank you. You’re Welcome.
Events: Beer Mimics Food, A Viking and an Elf
648 Bourke Street, Surry Hills – http://www.blackpenny.com.au/
Very hip with some very modern food, a first rate cocktail list and – you guessed it – craft beer on tap. They’ve also got a bunch for great music nights so if you feel like some twerking, Black Penny will do wonders for your rep.
Events: Beer Craft and Black Magic
The Dove and Olive
156 Devonshire Street, Surry Hills – http://doveandolive.com.au/
The Dove has been around for a while, but has only started serving craft recently. They’re putting a stack of effort in too, with a monthly Craft Beer Fight Club which sees craft brewers go mano a mano. I’m sure whatever happens, everyone gets to drink some great beer. Great grub too, if you happen to find yourself having had one too many.
Events: Craft Beer Fight Club all in Brawl
The Quarryman’s Hotel
216 Harris St Pyrmont – http://www.quarrymanshotel.com.au/
Formerly an old man boozer with a rich heritage and a bunch of history, The Quarryman’s has become a craft beer mecca. They have an astounding 26+ beers on tap, a near record for Sydney. What better time to try them all out than during Sydney Craft Beer Week?
Events: Quarryman’s Drunken Fish Bistro Joins Bacchus Brewing Co.
